I should be posting about the PhD, or some clever observation about new media, or how I built a perpetual motion machine with iTunes, but instead here’s the news item that almost made me spit coffee all over the table.
“Comedian Vic Reeves has been signed up as the new presenter of the Sky One show Brainiac: Science Abuse, replacing Top Gear’s Richard Hammond.”
Now, I quite like Brainiac. Although Ben Goldacre at badscience has done a terrific job of debunking some of their experiments (usually the ones that involve explosions that won’t happen with the chemical reaction implied), it’s still an enjoyable, “Johnny Ball” type show. However, the coffee-spitting only occurred as a result of Vic’s statement to the press:
“Science is my God and my ultimate goal in Brainiac is to destroy the moon with dynamite,”
I’ll be watching. It’s about time that moon got what was coming to it.
