Wild at Heart, and Weird on Top

It’s been a David Lynch sort of day. Not in the dancing dwarves sense, rather a day that’s been permeated by things of a Lynchian sensibility.

The new Scott Walker album’s been playing in the background most of the afternoon (recommended by the redoubtable Mr Day – thanks Mike), which picks up themes from 1998’s Tilt and carries them forward into the world we now live in. If Tilt was an artist exploring the potential of sound to tell a story in a holistic manner, then The Drift is that same artist both at ease with, and angry at the culture in which he finds himself.

And I spent (as it is Saturday, and this is what Saturdays are for) a good hour or two googling David Lynch’s new film. INLAND EMPIRE (all caps) was supposed to debut at Cannes this month, and although it clearly hasn’t done so, there’s a few tantalising glimpses of content and themes available out there. Start here, and here for an insight into what’s going on.

For anyone who cares, the teaser poster looks like this:

Time to watch Wild at Heart…
